We’ve had a busy and exciting start to life in 3rd Class! It’s been a big change moving upstairs and getting used to more serious work, but we’re really enjoying the challenge.

We’ve spent time in our school garden, looking after the plants and learning about the flora and fauna all around us. It’s amazing how much life we can find right on or under our doorstep.

On Monday mornings, we’ve been taking part in GAA football coaching — a great way to start the week, stay active, and work as a team. We’ve also been practising our skipping for the Skip Around the World challenge this October, and our scores are improving every day!

A highlight of the term was our trip to the Library, where we took part in a radio drama and sound effects workshop. We learned how to make sounds come alive using imagination and everyday items. We stopped by the playground on the way back to school to complete our fun outing. Many thanks to the Passage West Library and Paula Courtney for inviting us and to Ann Dalton for the workshop (author of Star Boy).

As Halloween approached, we got into the spirit with a costume hike around the GAA pitch and a performance at the School Assembly. Everyone looked fantastic in their costumes! Both 3rd Classes have also enjoyed time together for Toast Time and a Cóisir, where we’ve been practising our comhrá as Gaeilge. It’s been a great way to build our confidence in Irish.

We also had a special visit from Seamus McGrath TD, who spoke to us about his work and answered our questions. It tied in nicely with our lessons on the Presidential election and our own class student council elections. Congratulations to everyone who put their names forward and gave us very interesting presentations — it was a tough and very tight vote.
It’s been a wonderful start to 3rd Class — full of learning, laughter, and new adventures.
